General Legal Services

In 2009, CASE was granted funding through the Commonwealth Comunity Legal Services Program to provide a generalist legal service to clients from a Culturally and Linguistucally Diverse (CaLD) background. This funding is administered by Legal Aid WA for the Commonwealth Attorney General's Department and provides core operational funds.

This service aims to provide advice and assistance to clients who speak limited English and who are recent arrivals to Western Australia.  Appointments are available for a wide range of legal issues including debt, Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney, tenancy, contracts, traffic matters, criminal law, criminal injuries compensation, discrimination and many others. Since June 2009 demand for this service has grown steadily with a number of clients returning for advice in relation to new problems.

The main type of problems that have presented are disputes in relation to private rental accommodation, advice and representation in relation to the Road Traffic Act, criminal injury compensation applications, and negotiating settlements in contractual disputes.

Clients have often been precluded from accessing legal advice from the private legal sector due to their inabillity to comprehend and communicate in the English language and also their limited financial means.

If you would like to make an appointment to see a lawyer or need to know more, please telephone our office on 9227-7311 during our business hours.

Fact sheets about various areas of law have also been published and have been translated into several different languages.  They can be found here: Fact sheets
